The large bird which was the most abundant here was the Cuculus phasianus or pheasant cuckoo.

We remained near a small hill, called Maundo, where we began to be frequently invited by the honey-guide ('Cuculus indicator').

He appears to be the Cuculus Indicator (le Coucou Indicateur) and the Om-Shlanvo of the Kafirs; the Somal call him Maris.
